Department
Civil Engineering
Overview of Academic Programs:
Academic programs in civil engineering are essential for shaping the future of our built environment. By equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and practical experience, these programs contribute to a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous world.
Programs Offered by the Department:
Undergraduate Programs:
• Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Civil Engineering
The Civil branch was started in the year 2012 with an intake of 60 students and increased to 120 and 180 subsequently.
The Department is headed by Dr. T. Naresh Kumar, Associate Professor., who is actively monitoring the activities of the department.
The Department has one computer lab consisting of 66 terminals with latest configuration (Intel DC). All the labs are LAN connected operating on windows 10 Operating System. Facilities are available for uninterrupted power supply in all the labs.
• Duration:
- 4 years (8 semesters)
- Each semester usually lasts 5-6 months, including examinations.
• Credit Requirements:
- Foundation Courses:
- Includes Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry; fundamental engineering courses; humanities, social sciences, and management courses
- Typically contribute to 69% of the total credits.
- Core Subjects:
- Includes subjects related to the parent discipline/department/branch of Engineering like Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, etc.
- Typically contribute around 87% of the total credits.
- Project & Internships:
- Includes a Major Project at 8th Semester, Summer Internships – Community-based and Industry Internships; Industry oriented Full Semester Internship.
- Typically Internships are conducted during summer vacations.
- It contributes 10.31% of total credits.
- Elective Courses:
- Includes Professional Elective Courses (PE), Open Elective Courses (OE) and Domain-specific skill enhancement courses (SEC)
- Specialized topics chosen by the student.
- It Contribute 16.87% of the total credits.
- Mandatory non-credit courses:
- Covering subjects of developing desired attitudes among the learners
Accreditation:
- The Civil Engineering department successfully underwent peer review and on-site evaluations in early 2024.
- Accreditation granted in March 2024, indicates compliance with criteria such as infrastructure, faculty qualifications, curriculum, and student achievements.
- Accreditation signifies that the program meets NBA’s Program Outcomes (POs) and Graduate Attributes (GAs).
- It assures stakeholders (students, parents, employers) that the program adheres to globally benchmarked standards.
Post Graduate Programs:
Master of Technology (M. Tech.) in Civil Engineering:
Department of Civil Engineering offers a postgraduate (M. Tech.) program in “Structural Engineering” Specialization.
The department attaches a lot of importance to its Master’s students providing them ample opportunities towards research and development. The M. Tech. program comprises of core courses, specialization-related electives, Value Added courses, and supervised research exposition.
D. in Civil Engineering:
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Civil Engineering is a research-intensive program aimed at advancing knowledge and solving complex engineering problems. It prepares scholars to seek new knowledge, and turn ideas into reality.

Additional Programs:
B.Tech. Minor Degree Program:
Our department extends the opportunity for students with a keen interest in exploring areas beyond Civil Engineering to choose additional courses in minor degree specialization groups offered by departments other than our department.
For example, if a Civil Engineering student selects subjects from Computer Science Engineering under this scheme, he/she will get a “Major Degree in Civil Engineering with a Minor Degree in Computer Science Engineering”.
Students can also opt for industry-relevant tracks of any branch to obtain the Minor Degree. For example, a B.Tech. Civil Engineering student can opt for industry-relevant tracks like Data Mining track, IOT track, Machine Learning track, etc.
A student shall earn additional 20 credits in the specified area to be eligible for the award of B.Tech. degree with Minor. This is in addition to the credits essential for obtaining the Under Graduate Degree in Major Discipline (160 credits).
B.Tech. Honors Degree Program:
The students in our department have the opportunity to enrol in the Honors Programme offered by the same department/discipline. Students can register for the Honors program at the start of the 4th semester, choosing additional and advanced courses from our Civil Department. Upon successful completion of the selected advanced courses within our department, a student will be conferred with a “B.Tech. (Honors Degree)” in Civil Engineering.
In addition to fulfilling all the requisites of a Regular B.Tech. Programme, a student shall earn 20 additional credits to be eligible for the award of B.Tech. (Honors) degree. This is in addition to the credits essential for obtaining the Under Graduate Degree in Major Discipline (i.e. 160 credits).
