Academic Programs
B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering)
The Mechanical Engineering Department offers a ‘Four-Year Bachelor of Technology’ (B.Tech. Degree) Program (comprising eight semesters).
The B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) program curriculum includes courses categorized into the following broad classifications:
S. No. | Broad Course Classification | Course Category | Description |
1. | Foundation Courses |
Foundation courses | Includes Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry; fundamental engineering courses; humanities, social sciences, and management courses |
2. |
Core Courses | Professional Core Courses (PC) | Includes subjects related to the parent discipline/department/branch of Engineering |
3. |
Elective Courses | Professional Elective Courses (PE) | Includes elective subjects related to the parent discipline/department/ branch of Engineering |
Open Elective Courses (OE) | Elective subjects which include interdisciplinary subjects or subjects in an area outside the parent discipline/ department/ branch of Engineering
Domain-specific skill enhancement courses (SEC) | Interdisciplinary/job-oriented/domain courses which are relevant to the industry
4 |
Project & Internships | Project | B.Tech. Project or Major Project |
Internships | Summer Internships – Community-based and Industry Internships; Industry oriented Full Semester Internship
5. |
Audit Courses | Mandatory non-credit courses | Covering subjects of developing desired attitudes among the learners |
Our B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) program provides ample flexibility, enabling students to choose from a variety of elective courses. These courses offer exposure to different specializations within Mechanical Engineering, including Production, Design, Thermal, CAD/CAM, and Industrial Engineering Streams.
In addition to the curriculum, the department provides skill courses, campus recruitment training, seminars, soft skills training, GATE classes, guest lectures, expert talks, and industrial visits. These initiatives aim to prepare students for the industry, enhancing their readiness for successful job placements.
B.Tech. Minor Degree Program
Our department extends the opportunity for students with a keen interest in exploring areas beyond Mechanical Engineering to choose additional courses in minor degree specialization groups offered by departments other than our department.
For example, if a Mechanical Engineering student selects subjects from Computer Science Engineering under this scheme, he/she will get a “Major Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Minor Degree in Computer Science Engineering”.
Students can also opt for industry-relevant tracks of any branch to obtain the Minor Degree.
For example, a B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering student can opt for industry-relevant tracks like Data Mining track, IOT track, Machine Learning track, etc…
B.Tech. Honors Degree Program
The Mechanical Engineering students in our department have the opportunity to enroll in the Honors Programme offered by the same department/discipline. Students can register for the Honors program at the start of the 4th semester, choosing additional and advanced courses from our mechanical branch. Upon successful completion of the selected advanced courses within our mechanical branch, a student will be conferred with a “B.Tech. (Honors Degree)” in Mechanical Engineering.
M.Tech. Program
Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a post graduate (M.Tech.) program in “Machine Design” Specialization.
The department attaches a lot of importance to its Master’s students providing them ample opportunities towards research and development. The M.Tech. program comprises of core courses, specialization-related electives, Value Added courses, and supervised research exposition.
